Sixth Form Basketball Academy

After two years away from the Academy Basketball League (ABL) Mayfield Basketball Academy are excited to compete again!

The Basketball Academy played Sigma Sixth Colchester academy at home on the 3/11/2021 the 4^th game into the ABL season. Both teams meeting for the first time this season as Mayfield entered the game with a record of 2-1 and Colchester at a 3-0 record, Mayfield looked to hand them their first loss of the season.

The first half would see a back and forth battle between the two sides with Mayfield down 1 going into the second half at 35-34 in favour of Sigma sixth. A strong third quarter with good defensive plays would put Mayfield up 62 – 54 with one quarter left to play. Sigma sixth came back in the fourth with 14 seconds left to play, Sigma coming out of a time out nail a 3 pointer to put Mayfield up by 1 point at 82-81. A time out called by Coach Donnie allowed for a possession where sigma was forced to foul, vital free throws in the hands of first year Sam I. would put Mayfield up at 83-81 to seal the game.

The second-year players of the academy Derek O. and Jason H. led the charge in the win over Sigma Sixth. Well done to Derek for getting player of the match as he led all scorers for 30 points and 14 rebounds and Jason finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
