Welcome to the webpage for Mayfield School's Library

A. Ferreira (Web)Our library is a warm, welcoming and diverse resource centre, accessible to all students and staff, for individual study and leisure reading. The library aims to develop a community of passionate, curious, open-minded and creative readers and instil a life-long love of reading and learning.

Mayfield Library has been refurbished and extended, with the sole purpose of effectively enhancing pupils educational and personal development. We are determined to inspire curiosity, stimulate independent and passionate learning, foster a growth mindset and promote wellbeing and happiness over the course of their school journey.

Based in the heart of Mayfield School, our mission is to provide a vital service across the curriculum, by offering a broad range of reading and learning material, tailor-made guidance and support, and encouraging pupils to be actively involved in the daily life of their Library. Further updates on the facilities, clubs, events, workshops, volunteering, new displays, suggested reading lists and external links can be found on the links below.

We look forward to welcoming you all to the Mayfield School Library, where we aim to champion a love of reading and learning, stimulate creativity, facilitate a constant journey towards a shared vision and ethos of being the best that we can be.

Miss A. Ferreira, Lead Librarian

D. Black (web)The Library is open every day, including after school, and offers a quiet place for students to read, study and simply expand their learning. It has always been a place that provides a variety of resources to meet the needs of an individual, as well as groups of learners, to increase their knowledge and prepare them for the wider world in adulthood. A great thing about the Library is that it also provides a leisure opportunity by reading texts such as Graphic Novels, Genre texts as well as Games Clubs.

Mr D. Black, Library Assistant (after school)

D. Scott (Web)My role as a librarian is to support pupils’ learning and their development into effective, independent learners and readers.

Mrs D. Scott, Librarian

Opening times: The School Library is open all day, from 07:45 - 17:15, Monday - Friday.

A write up from Library Ambassador, Vania H. on Mental Health Awareness Month 2023

"Here at Mayfield school Library, we are dedicated to looking out for the wellbeing of our students, teachers and other members of staff. For the past couple of months or so, we have dedicated a portion of the school library to ensure that this promise is fulfilled. This section of the library comprises a myriad of self-care books, including extensive knowledge on the psychology behind mental health as well as novellas reflecting on mental health through their stories. All books have been thoughtfully hand-selected by our librarians, who value the wellbeing of our students deeply and thus, have chosen an array of materials that reflect this commitment. We created this section in the hopes it would help anyone interested in learning about the importance of mental health, or if they're in need of any support. As a community, we prioritise the needs of everyone to ensure no one suffers alone or in silence. As well as books, we are planning on starting workshops to further expand this section and work towards making Mayfield school library a safe place for people to express how they feel, regardless of culture, religion, gender and sexuality. Furthermore, we have also premiered the Oscar Academy winner for best short, animated film The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, by Charlie Mackesy at our library as a starting point for mental health awareness month. We hope you find our library to be a place stripped away from hardships and struggles as we invite you all with kindness, understanding and love."
