6th JulYears 7, 8 & 9 Cricket FinalsMayfield's Year 7, 8 and 9 cricket teams all made it through to their respective finals this week in the tier 2 Essex Cup competition. After winning in the previous round, the Year 8 team were up against Campion in the Semi finals. Mayfield batted first and after a slow start some excellent batting from Dua, Tamjeed and Rafi pulled them to a good total of 70 in this pairs cricket format. Campion started strong in reply but a good spell of bowling left Campion needing 12 runs off the last 8 ball over. Some good fielding took the game to the second last ball but some excellent batting from Campion allowed them to reach the target with just 2 balls to spare. Mayfield eventually finished 3rd overall. The Year 9 team went into the final game against Gable Hall as favourites after some excellent play in earlier rounds. Mayfield batted first and some attacking batting from Daim and Ahmed took Mayfield to a total of 102. Gable Hall batted well in reply but some excellent overs from Yash and Ahmed towards the end, combined with good wicket keeping from Usman, left Gable Hall needing a 6 off the final ball of the game. An excellent delivery from Ahmed meant no runs were scored and Mayfield ran out winners.
