Team Supreme - WOHAA

Team Supreme Made it Through to the Semi-Finals   In September 2018, a group of Mayfield students had took part in a business enterprise with the Wings of Hope Achievement Awards. Team Supreme did amazingly well throughout the year by fundraising and raising awareness for the WOHAA; they had managed to raise up to £1,083.00. Recently the team has secured a place in the semi-finals that had took place in the House of Lords. There was a panel of six judges that included the founder and co-founder of WOHAA, alumni’s, and two Lords - Lord Bhikhu Parekh and Lord Tom McNally. Team Supreme had presented in front of these judges and embraced their cultures whilst doing so. Out of 80 schools, they progressed further and further and made it into the semi-finals competing against private and state schools across the country and Europe, doing a fantastic job and being one of the few state schools left in the competition.   Well done to Hamza, Daruosh, Kamile, Samiha, Mo, and Sufyan for their fantastic efforts. We wish Team Supreme good luck, and hope they go through to the finals.

Teens in AI - Hackathon

On Tuesday 21st May 2019, some of our students took part in a Hackathon for the Teens in AI London Tech Week. What is a Hackathon? Traditionally, hackathons are technology development marathons that draw on the talents and initiative of bright-minded volunteers – such as software developers, engineers, technologists, designers, scientists, and anyone with a passion and desire to have an immediate impact on the world. Hackathons are open to anyone, and are focused on developing real solutions to global challenges by the end of the event. Teens in AI Hack is a pilot project run in partnership with Founders4Schools and CognitionX . It aims to inspire young people ages 11-18 into artificial intelligence and offer a chance to solve problems affecting humanity. At Teens in AI hackathons, young people lead the process and are guided by mentors to solve problems.

London Youth Games at Mayfield

On Tuesday 14th May and Monday 20th May 2019, several Primary Schools within the London Borough of Redbridge were invited to attend two London Youth Games events at Mayfield School. The first event was a Year 3-4 mixed gender Tri-Golf tournament. This tournament had teams of 10 members, five female and five male, and included eight stations. The second event was a Year 3-4 female only Football Festival (not a tournament). This is a new festival event on the Summer school games calendar, the details of which can be found on the London Youth Games website. All attendees had a fantastic time!

Visit from Medical Professionals

Last week, on April 30th 2019, some of our Year 7 & 8 highly able students had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Anisha Patel, a Paediatric Registrar in West London, and Dr. Matt Mitchard,  an Anaesthetist working in Critical Care at a London hospital; Matt is also a Captain in the British Army. We were delighted to meet them and look forward to hosting them at Mayfield later in the summer term. Anisha went to school in Redbridge and studied Medicine and Kings College London. Matt went to school in Lincolnshire and studied Medicine at Cambridge University.
