In 2016, the UN declared 11th February as International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The main reason for this declaration was to encourage more girls and women to take up jobs in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (also known as the STEM subjects).

International Day of Women and Girls in Science is an opportunity to promote full and equal access to, and participation in, science for women and girls. The theme of International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2024 is to 'inspire inclusion'. When we inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion, we forge a better world.
