Mayfield School Hosts first Iftar event
Posted on: 24/03/2025Mayfield recently held its first-ever Iftar event, a special occasion that brought together students, staff, and the wider school community in celebration of the holy month of Ramadan. The event was a resounding success, offering a night of reflection, unity, and charitable giving.
The evening was hosted by Ishrat, a Year 13 student, who guided attendees through the various activities. The event began with a warm welcome, followed by a delicious meal provided by the school’s dedicated kitchen team, ensuring that everyone was well-fed after a day of fasting. The menu included a variety of dishes, prepared with care, and enjoyed by all present.
In addition to the meal, the evening featured a number of engaging activities, including a poetry competition organised by the School's library. Students shared beautiful and thought-provoking poems, contributing to a sense of community and artistic expression. The poetry competition was a perfect complement to the spiritual themes of the evening.
A highlight of the night was the Quran recitation by Ahmad, a Year 12 student, whose heartfelt recitation resonated deeply with the audience. This was followed by a moving call to prayer, delivered by Zain, also a Year 13 student. Zain’s call to prayer provided a moment of reflection and connection for everyone in attendance, creating a peaceful atmosphere in which all could pause and appreciate the significance of the evening.
The evening also featured a prayer led by Momin, a Year 13 student, bringing the event to a fitting conclusion with a moment of spiritual unity. The collective prayer served as a reminder of the importance of community and faith, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan.
In addition to the celebrations and activities, the event also served as a fundraising opportunity for Save the Children. Donations were collected throughout the evening, and it was heartening to see the generous contributions of attendees who were eager to support a cause that helps children around the world.
The event would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the entire school team. Special thanks go to the kitchen team for providing such a delicious meal, the site team for their invaluable support on the night, the sixth form volunteers and all staff members who helped put the event together. Their efforts ensured that the evening ran smoothly and was an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
This first Iftar event at Mayfield was a beautiful and memorable occasion, one that brought together people from all walks of life in the spirit of unity, faith, and charity. It is hoped that this will become an annual tradition, continuing to foster community, understanding, and support for those in need.
