It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Manga artist and author Sonia Leong to our school on the 6^th of October 2026. This was an excellent occasion for our students to meet a real-life Manga artist, a very popular genre among our students, and to know more about Manga, Japanese culture, art, publishing and career changing.

Sonia Leong delivered a Year 9 Assembly, where she took us all on her journey from her childhood in Malaysia, to quitting her job and becoming a full-time artist. She also ran two character-drawing workshops with all year mixed groups, and guided them along the ever so wondrous journey to self-discovery, through art, illustration and stories.

At lunch she kindly spoke to students and staff, signed her books and kindly answered to the questions that a group of Library Ambassadors had prepared for her. All the details, works produced and interview, will be included in this term’s Library Newsletter “Mayfield Voice” – coming soon.

Thank you, Sonia, for presenting us with much inspiring and energetic talks, for positively influencing our students, and for bringing along the celebration of creativity and self-discovery. Our heartfelt appreciation to our Library Ambassadors for helping organise and deliver such a wonderful experience to our students.
