BREIS' Workshop
Posted on: 12/10/2023On 12th October, we had the pleasure of welcoming Breis, Rap Artist, Author, Poet and Educator, at Mayfield school library. Breis delivered three stimulating and inspiring workshops on Hip Hop, Rap, Poetry, Black History and… life! He took our enthusiastic students on a journey of encouragement, resilience and motivation towards learning, identity, creativity and self-esteem through rap and poetry.
The feedback from our students (below) are accurate depictions of how enjoyable, valuable and inspiring these workshops were, leaving an indelible impact on their lives. As an example of how much creativity was unleashed within these walls, please allow yourselves to be amazed by the poem/rap lyrics written by Sumaiya Osman, 12M3.
Thank you Breis for this wonderful experience! Thank you for brightening up the sessions!
Ana Ferreira
it was a brilliant experience and learning opportunity on something that is new to us. The engaging tasks were so fun.
Klaudia, 13M2
I’d say that he did well making us comfortable in the room, showing us things we can relate with, and the activities were very fun!
Jonild, 13M7
Breis was amazing at giving students the determination and the courage to find their dreams and no matter how low you are in life you should always keep going, and knowing Breis was very fun as he was such a funny and nice guy.
Dillon, 13M5
The workshop was enriching and helped me develop my understanding on Rap music and African descendant artists. Breis himself was funny and entertaining, allowing us to work creatively in a free and inclusive environment.
Sarina, 13M3
Eventful and interactive, good when engaging with a younger audience because of their lack of experience. helped me look outside of what I want to do and potentially develop new hobbies involving writing (script work, lyrics).
Stela, 13M5
What makes me, me is my identity,
It’s original and builds my personality.
The reality is we aren’t all the same
And we gotta remember that, 'cos life ain’t a game
I could hide parts of myself but that’s a lie
So, I’ll be honest to you when I look you in the eye.
A home is the people around me
'Cos they’re able to let me be
I’m comfortable enough to give them trust
Holding them close to me is a must!
So, I’ll give them all my love
And let my soul fly like a dove.
