Olympic Medallist

Posted on: 25/09/2024

On Wednesday 25th September, Mayfield School had the privilege of welcoming Olympic Medallist, Adam Burgess, for a school visit.

"After becoming Great Britain’s first ever canoe slalom U23 world champion in 2015, Adam Burgess has soared all the way to an Olympic silver medallist."

Burgess' senior career really took off in 2018, as he claimed C1 individual silver at the European Championships in Prague before taking home bronze in the team event at the World Championships in Rio.

Burgess came very close to a medal on his Olympic debut in Tokyo, missing out on bronze by just 0.16 seconds, as he had to settle for fourth in the men's C1 slalom.

Whilst at the 2023 European Games in Poland, Burgess helped teammates Ryan Westley and James Kettle to a bronze medal for Team GB in the men's team canoe.

Burgess then went one step further in the individual event at Paris 2024, putting down a storming final run to finally clinch silver on the Olympic stage.
